Like I really needed a new Project!

First Monday Canton Flea Market shopping brought a lot of great finds! I came across this old Pie Safe and just could not resist! I am in love with it, but I really didn't need another project right now to work on! I guess I should say, my hubs really didn't need another project! Since we are still working on the Shasta and I have lined up at least 2 or 3 other things for him to do, he didn't really welcome the idea of another fixer upper piece of furniture! But he is outside as I write this, working on the very piece! He is sooo sweet! I intend to paint it white and give it a distressed look. Now where I am going to put it....I have no clue!

My sister Lisa

Hello,

I am sorry it has been so long since my last post!
So many things have gone on since I last wrote anything....
My sweet and beautiful sister Lisa passed just 3 weeks ago and I have been so heartbroken, it has taken everything I've got to just function. I can't say it was a shock that she passed, but it was certainly unexpected at the time. She had suffered with cancer for over 5 years and was becoming so week, we knew it was coming but I guess you are just never prepared for it. And it happened so fast. I had prayed for so long that if she was to not be healed of this terrible disease that she would not suffer and that when it was time for her to go it would come quickly, God answered that prayer.
Although, I know she was suffering, she never gave in to it, she continued on for as long as she could with life as normal as it could possibly be. She wanted her boys to have a regular home atmosphere and not focus on her illness. But she did in fact suffer, in silence and still manage to keep things basically "normal". She had gotten down to just a mere 90 lbs. and still cooked dinner and kept her house. She wouldn't let us help her because that would make the boys think she was getting sicker.
We had actually made a trip to Florida just the week prior to her death. She was determined to go....we couldn't stop her! So mom and I went with her and the boys, so that she could have one last trip to her beloved beach. O how she loved Florida!
But as soon as we got back home, she just couldn't go any further and it was time.
God took her home on July 3, 2012 just two days after we returned.
And now we are left to carry on without her. I have had to force myself to get on with life and not be sad. I know that is not what she would want. She loved shopping at the thrift stores, probably even more than me. Mom and I made a special trip to one of our favorite stores yesterday in honor of her. It was hard to do...it has always been the 3 of us. Me, mom and Lisa...the 3 stooges, the 3 thrifters! She would have been thrilled yesterday, the store had some great bargains...I saw so many things I would have shown her, talked to her about. I want to tell her about what I bought, laugh with her and gripe about how hot it has been here. I want to go have lunch with her and call her on the phone! But I can't.
It will get better, eventually. Because I know where she is. My sister Lisa is in heaven with our Lord. I know this because of my faith, I know it in my heart. And that is what keeps me going. I know I will see her again someday and it will be a great and happy reunion!

Vintage Repurposed Mirrored Buckle

Hello,

I came across this beautiful mirrored buckle just the other day on etsy and knew I had to have it! It is so unusual and different......I just love it! I decided to make it into a statement necklace to sell on my own etsy shop "My Valentine Jewels". I thought I would give you all a sneak peek at it before I post it on there. Let me know what ya'll think! The good part is.....I have another half that I can do something else with!

The Shasta "Belle"

Hello...

I am so pleased to introduce you to "Belle"!
She is our vintage Shasta trailer and needs a lot of TLC! But I am excited to get started on her and happy that she now belongs to us. Ya'll may get so tired of my post about her after awhile but please bear with me as I chronicle her makeover. I am over the moon happy!
Please don't judge her too much, she does need a lot of work, but I really think we can bring her back to her glory days!

The Greatest Invention and hanging platters

Hello....

In my opinion, I think the internet might just be the greatest invention God has ever allowed man to invent! You literally have the world at your finger tips. Anything you can think of you can find, just google it. For instance, today I was facing the delima of hanging some platters for which I had no hangers (NO WIRE HANGERS!!!!). What to do? I could call the hubs and ask him to stop off at Hobby Lobby and pick up some...you must realize that I live in the country...no Wal Mart or Hobby Lobby close by. It would be an all day trip into Dallas just for hangers, so the hubs gets to make a lot of those kind of trips for me. Which he does not mind at all (I'm sure?).... but he would just be getting off work and I would have to wait and I want to hang my platters now! Ah ha!...the Internet, of course, just ask!.... "How to hang platters on the wall" ..some of you ladies out there are so smart! They really should give awards for Homemaking Smartness! I came across this suggestion on several sites and I decided to give it a try...and I must say it works like a charm!

This is all the supplies you will need

I added the felt because it seemed more secure to me and it wouldn't scratch the wall

Love the look! and it was sooo easy! Thanks to The Frugal Homemaker, I actually followed her advice and added the felt.

***Please note disclaimer: I am not recommending that you hang anything of great value or something that is heavy on your wall in this manner. This is what I did, and I am pleased with the results, this is merely a suggestion and if you think it will work for you go right ahead, but you do so at your own risk

Another Great Thrift Store Buy!

Hello....

I have been fortunate to get out to my fav thrift store twice this week. And lucky for me each time has proved to be a great opportunity for some cool buys! Not only did I get the 3 vintage clip art books on Monday, but today, Thursday, I found these two lovely old jewelry boxes. Both are a wonderful color of off white and are still very clean and in great shape on the inside. The smaller one has a scratch on the top of it... but its not too noticeable. I just love them both and my heart skipped a beat or two when I came across them.. the smaller one was $2.97 and the bigger one was $3.97. Not bad at all! I plan to use them with my jewelry display and I think they will work just great for that!

Bargain of the Week

Hello...

I am still trying to get use to blogging...so please forgive me if I don't always keep up and post as often as I know I should! Life just gets in the way sometimes! But I have been out thrifting and I have a few bargains to show you. I don't usually shop on Mondays, but I will if thats the only day I get to go! And this week is going to be like that for me. I did make it to Canton First Monday last week and it was so unbelievably HOT! I always go on Thursdays, and I was hoping it would not be so miserable, but I just couldn't make it to all my usual spots. I did get a few great things, I can't complain about that, but I like to shop all day when I'm there and I just couldn't do it this time. I will be praying for much cooler weather next month...but this is Texas after all!!

So on the the "Bargain of the Week"....

These are some old clip art books from the 50's. I love the graphics in the them. One is Holidays and special occasions. I have no idea what I will do with them yet, but I really like them. At only 5 bucks each...I consider that a "BARGAIN"!!
